While most people would never add a stranger on Facebook, let alone get engaged to them by text, « Catfish: The TV Show » meets a lot of people who would. Having fallen into online relationships, these people have employed the Catfish team to help track down their elusive virtual lovers. Inevitably, they find out they’ve been “catfished” and are not going out with the person they tought it was.
The TV show is presented by Nev Schulman and Max Joseph and it is based on the 2010 film Catfish in wich Nev falls into an online relationship with a girl called Megan. After failing to meet up with him on several occasions, Nev tries to track Megan down to her home in Michigan, and he finally finds out that she is a bored stay-at-home mum.
In that extent, n the internet, a « catfish » is a person who creates fake personal profiles on social media sites, pretending to be someone more appealing than his/her true self, by using someone else’s pictures and false biographical informations.
MTV and the Catfish film’s producers help couples who have never met in real life. They want to know if the person they are in relationship with is legitimate or if they are, in fact, a “catfish”. After questionning the « victims », Nev films « THE » meeting between the two lovers. However, not every relationship works out and there are some prett endings.
=> The bad effects of Facebook in social life, http://incastreasures.hubpages.com/hub/why-Facebook-is-bad-for-relationships
You may think Facebook means revolution, state-of-art, edge of technologies, … So what could be armful about it ? Why something new and revolutionary could hurt you in your social life ?
Facebook is a real communication tool which is great to create a network of contacts. However Facebook has two sides. The positive side of Facebook is that for example it helps us finding an internship or a job, thanks to the many friends you have on Facebook, it increases our chances to get a job… But Facebook also has a dark side when it comes to the social relationship. What is the negative aspect of Facebook on people and our social relationship?
According to a Canadian study, Facebook is bad for relationships. It increases jealousy between supporters, because the partner can see many details of the life of the other. Comparing what they see to their own life, even if it is not the truth, can be very frustrating.
Each user can add some details to your own life, even if you don’t want them to do. For example, you can’t control the comments your friends (or opposed sex friend) post.
But one big problem of Facebook is that nobody forces you to join the network, it is a voluntary act, which can sometimes be dangerous for ones reputation. And so, why take risks within a couple? Should we be for or against to join Facebook when we are in couple?
When the couple is strong and has nothing to hide, when we trust each other, there is no problem with using Facebook, but if the doubt is here, Facebook can become a tool of suspicion and doubt. You must choose which friends are accepted on your wall, and stop more of them, so the don’t post things you don’t want your couple to see.
Facebook can be a place of sharing and communication, but it can also become a very dangerous tool if we don’t follow some rules.
Sherry Turkle : Connected, but alone?
LET’S WATCH THAT VIDEO
As we expect more from technology, do we expect less from each other? Sherry Turkle studies how our devices and online personas are redefi…
In this video Sherry Turkle explain how social media can change your life. It especially develops the fact that before : you had a feeling and you wanted to make a call and now we want to have a feeling so we need to send a text. It also highlights that the robots or technologies encroach upon your everyday life. It explains technologies take human being’s place in your life.
I agree when it deals about the illusion of companionship. People send texts with social media, because they think it’s easier, but they’re wrong, when you speak with someone on facebook or on twitter you can’t have a real conversation, it’s really superficial. Of course, you can speek with more people at the same time, you think you are more popular or you have friends but in fact when someone see an other people in a street or in subway on his mobil phone, this person is alone. When you speak with someone by technologie you are alone.
Moreover, people seems to scare about loneliness. Social media thus allow to never be alone, but one more time, it’s just an illusion. Human being never want to be alone, but to learn about other people you have to learn about yourself.
An other point are develop and to me it’s essential, it asks to be careful to future, it advices to impose time to speak to each other for example at diner.
“Although most of the upstarts are not bringing in significant revenue — and Twitter has been losing money — for investors the question is which services will attract the most users and the most advertisers.”
“Even Pope Francis is on Twitter, but social media rivals have attracted a variety of users with different kinds of goals.”
This article, taken from THE NEW YORK TIMES underlines the gap between today’s world and past. Actually, the main goal of social network is to pave the way for a new generation : everyone has to sign it ! So if it’s not already done, you have to make up for the last time, because even the Pope Francis is on Twitter. Yesterday, Nicolas Sarkozy published on his Facebook wall the stock of his judgement about Bettencourt’s case. In fact, people sponge on Social Media. The worse is that the “social Fabric” suffered, because if you’re not signed, you loose something : news, demonstrations,…
Nevertheless, the article underlines either that to come to grips with social media is useless. Indeed, you’re closely intertwined to social network, and there is some good things about it : a million of people gets there everyday. What’s striking to note is that, social network is maybe free to you but it’s all about MEGA BUCKS, and it gathers the “Big Blue” that is to say ; the most famous and rich firms.
So nowadays, the main preoccupation lies on piling up much as possible users on Facebook, Instagram… so that they’ll become even more influent.. and powerful.
This video deals with Virtual identities, in fact, you can go to our glossary, to see what it means. Nevertheless, I’m going to explain a little big what’s the main goal of it :
VIRTUAL IDENTITIES means that you’ve got some digital tattoo.
That is to say, you’ve got some ghosts that follow you into the web : your facebook profile, your blogs, everything you’ve done in your life (almost everything) is linked to internet !
watch out, because it’s really dangerous, it paves the way to dangerous things..
