Catfish TV Show : the truth and the lies of online datings

While most people would never add a stranger on Facebook, let alone get engaged to them by text, « Catfish: The TV Show » meets a lot of people who would. Having fallen into online relationships, these people have employed the Catfish team to help track down their elusive virtual lovers. Inevitably, they find out they’ve been “catfished” and are not going out with the person they tought it was.

The TV show is presented by Nev Schulman and Max Joseph and it is based on the 2010 film Catfish in wich Nev falls into an online relationship with a girl called Megan. After failing to meet up with him on several occasions, Nev tries to track Megan down to her home in Michigan, and he finally finds out that she is a bored stay-at-home mum.
In that extent, n the internet, a « catfish » is a person who creates fake personal profiles on social media sites, pretending to be someone more appealing than his/her true self, by using someone else’s pictures and false biographical informations.

MTV and the Catfish film’s producers help couples who have never met in real life. They want to know if the person they are in relationship with is legitimate or if they are, in fact, a “catfish”. Some couples have been together for a few months, others, for years.. Each episode is a different couple with a different story. After questionning the « victims », Nev films « THE » meeting between the two lovers. However, not every relationship works out and there are some prett endings.
